Hello world! Gatherings is open for business!
Gatherings opened its doors on May 12th, 2012 in a beautifully renovated, early 1800’s Pennsylvania bank barn. We are located just off rte. 442 just before entering the village of Clarkstown. Turn right onto Clarkstown road, cross the bridge and we are the 3rd place on the right. Look for the barn with brown cedar siding, parking in front.
Gatherings at Muncy Creek Barn Works is a retail shoppe specializing in local and USA made products and gifts. Although our main focus is on local and USA products we do carry some imported items as well. We carry soaps, jewelry, baskets, pottery, clothing, curtains, linens, rugs, florals, herbals, garden and home decor items.
Weekly craft classes. Basket making. Lectures and tutorials are scheduled throughout the season.
In a nutshell…..
My name is Sharon.
I am :
a baby boomer
an old soul
married 35 yrs to a really good man
a mother to two wonderful sons
a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend
creative, friendly, kind
a shoppe owner
a floral designer
I love creating, embellishing, sharing.
My style? I guess I would call it ‘up-scale’ country/farmhouse fresh/practical primitive.
I’ve decided to blog about my dream come true. What it is like to start and run a small shoppe out of an old but beautifully renovated barn….
In 1980 my husband and I purchased a very rundown farmhouse and barn on six acres of weeds. So bad in fact that my Father-in-law told us we were nuts and not to touch it with a ten foot pole. This coming from a man who could do, fix and make anything!
But, we were young, ambitious and it was within our budget, so we bought it! Needless to say it’s taken 30+ years of hard work, sweat and more hard work to transform the old place into the pretty and comfortable place we call home today!
My husband started renovating the barn in the 90’s mostly to give our boys a place to hang with friends and to have our large family Christmas gatherings. It had always been in the back of my mind to open a shoppe in the barn starting when I was a stay at home mom working as a craft designer doing local craft shows. The boys were teenagers when my husband lost his job due to downsizing. He then started his own contracting business. Well, we both couldn’t be self-employed. I needed to find a job with health ins. I started work as a floral designer, craft instructor and retail buyer for a local craft store. A job that I loved and held for fifteen years gaining much retail experience along the way!
With a leap of faith I quit my job in April of 2012 and opened the doors to Gatherings at Muncy Creek Barn Works in May!!
